Starting with Musical Analysis for Music Diploma Paperwork
Todays lessons started with a pupil via King’s College Cambridge, preparing for his FRCO (Fellow of the Royal College of Organists) diploma. This was his second session, analysing the music of Judith Bingham, the set works for this year’s music diploma.
New Adult Singing Pupil seeking a Vocal Coach
This was followed by an in-person new vocal pupil singing, a more ‘mature’ lady and it was wonderful to help her free up her throat and remove all tension, learning a vocal technique called “mirening”. She particularly enjoyed applying this to “I dreamed a dream” as she admired the Susan Boyle rendition.
Online Organ Lessons
Then two online organ pupils developing their understanding of the “Circle of Fifths” by improvising on Pachelbel’s Canon. A practical way of developing Keyboard Harmony, utilising patterns from Bach’s short 8 preludes and fugues followed by some structured improvisation and imitation between hands. In the future, we might be looking at latin patterns for right hand-left hand-pedal coordination!
After this, Borodin’s Nocturne on piano and working at triplets against quavers, always a great rhythmical task!
Piano Practise and Piano Covers
Meanwhile, I’ve been practising the “Cha cha cha” and working out which contemporary pop song to cover with this latin twist.
Now, looking forward to an interview relating Alexander technique and the freeing of tension, training the musician further in the mind, to optimal performance. Jennifer Roig-Francoli will be joining me and this will be exclusive released soon. Watch this space to learn how to achieve your complete freedom through music!
