How Can I Improvise a Basse de Trompette?
Step into the world of 18th-century French elegance with world-renowned improviser Samuel Liégeon. Filmed at the stunning Daniel Birouste organ, this masterclass dives deep into the iconic Basse de Trompette style, blending technical precision with creative flair.
This is also totally suitable for Pianists and Harpsichordists and features on our List A Grade 4 Creativity Grades for Music Lovers organists pathway (pianists and harpsichordists can still create pieces similar, excellent for developing left hand solos). Our exams are UK Ofqual and EU EQF and RQF accredited.
What Will You Discover in This French Classical Organ Improvisation Masterclass?
Become a pro with the secrets of French Classical improvisation. We don’t just show you what to play; we show you how to think like a Baroque master organist. You’ll explore:
- Authentic Registration: How to balance the bold Trompette with the delicate 8′ and 4′ Principals (Prestant).
- Linear Counterpoint: Mastering the art of horizontal melodic lines that sing.
- Harmonic Marches: Using Circle of 5ths sequences to create irresistible momentum and structure.
Is Your Organ Registration Truly Authentic?
Many organists struggle with the balance of a Basse de Trompette. Samuel breaks down the exact stop combinations needed to achieve that “shimmering majesty” without overwhelming the accompaniment.
How Can You Build Better Piano, Harpsichord or Organ Improvisations?
Learn the “Harmonic March.” By understanding the geometry of the Circle of 5ths and sequences, you’ll be able to extend your improvisations naturally, moving through keys with the grace of a 17th or 18th-century titular organist.
