In his interview with The Maestro Online he describes how, after a church service, a man came up to him and was quite upset asking him, “What was this Bach fugue that I don’t know?” The man knew all of the Bach fugues. However, it was a fugue that Leonard had improvised. When Leonard told him it was an improvisation, the man replied, “then you are Bach!”. This is surely the ultimate complement!
