Advent 12:ย – Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Rudolph brings back such fabulous memories! What can we learn in this lesson?
Ear Training, Chords and the Circle of 5ths
- Solfege or “Relative Solfa” to train the inner ear. This is quite an advanced melody, even for adults, because it leaps around so much!
- The verse of this piece uses consecutive triads (chords), descending by step. Great exercise for vocalists, pianist and organists to repeat in several keys.
- The circle of 5ths (Bm-Em-Am-D-G) in the middle 8. A standard progression from the Baroque (1600-1750) right through to many Jazz Standards.
The Importance of Ear Training in Adult Piano Lessons
Piano Lessons for Adults very rarely use solfege, nor do beginner organ lessons or vocal coach lessons. This is a big mistake. Piano Lessons for Adults, should employ solfege, or relative solfa, as a tool to connect the sound with the keys being played, to learn about keys, intervals and to enable beginner piano improvisation, vocal improvisation and organ improvisation from the outset.
I challenge you to a daily Christmas musical journey. Post and share your piano lessons for adults improvisation!
All piano lessons for adults courses use bespoke, Kodaly solfege inspired inner-ear methodology and develop core musicianship skills rather than simply being “copy me” tutorials. Develop the solfege skills that enable you to play every piano piece that you want, the way that you want.
